Rock Dredging

Bigger vessels, deeper fairways, port construction on new locations, and wider cross sections of canals through mountainous terrain have faced the dredging industry with additional challenges: creating navigation depth in ever harder rocky soil formations. Projects that previously couldn’t even been dreamed of, have become technically feasible by innovation and the development of new crushing rock draghead. Very heavy rock-breaking and self-propellant cutter suction dredges (CSD), such as the trail blazing CSD ‘d’Artagnan’, have a cutting power for operations in rock soils of no less than 8.150 HP. And productivity of underwater blasting has tripled, by combining the installation of additional drill towers on a drillship with the use of liquid explosives and increased manoeuvrability.
