NewWaves Solutions is the operating company of the DEME Group in the UK and is your gateway to all of DEME’s capabilities. From our office at Canary Wharf, London, we strive for offering specialized solutions to our clients’ needs. NewWaves Solutions' involvement in large marine dredging works in the UK & Ireland goes way back, with for example our participation in the construction of the Cardiff Bay Barrage Project in the 1990s.






In recent times, long term contracts have been established with ports (e.g. Medway Maintenance Dredging) and governmental bodies (Lincshore Beach Renourishment for the Environment Agency), where NewWaves Solutions was able to build sustainable relationships and focus on continuous improvement. Our expertise and experience were called upon for the largest marine construction in the UK, the London Gateway Port Project for DP World. NewWaves Solutions' successful involvement in this flagship contract has demonstrated its capability to take a leading role in solving the largest and most complex marine dredging problems. 


The Belgian dredging and hydraulic engineering group DEME has won a prominent position on the world market in a number of highly specialized and complex hydraulic disciplines. The company fosters a strong innovative approach and has been a pioneer in technical innovation throughout its history. The Group has almost 175 years of experience in its core dredging and land reclamation activities and hydraulic engineering and executed major works of marine engineering infrastructure such as new ports, waterways, airports, artificial islands, residential and recreational areas, industrial areas, roads, bridges etc on all continents.  






In support of DEME’s dredging activities, and to enable them to offer their clients global solutions for their port and waterway developments and large-scale land reclamation projects, the Group offers an impressive range of services in the environmental field, sea aggregate winning, complex marine construction such as foundation and installation of offshore wind farms, offshore heavy-lifting, general maritime services and it is developing a whole range of new activities in the field of energy and mining.

Thanks to its multidisciplinary capabilities, the synergies in many projects, and its integrated corporate structure, DEME has become a global solutions provider. DEME has created a network of branch offices and agencies on all continents. Today, the company is active in over 90 different countries and has a permanent workforce of 4,700 dedicated people. DEME companies can rely on a dredging fleet consisting of 90 main vessels backed by a broad range of auxiliary equipment. In 2013 at Group level a turnover amounting to 2.532 billion EUR was generated. NewWaves Solutions Non-Executive Directors

The Rt Hon. the Lord Astor of Hever PC DL - Chairman of NewWaves Solutions Limited

Lord Astor was a Defence Minister from 2010 – 2015.  In May 2015, he was appointed Privy Councillor and is currently the Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Oman and the Secretary of State’s Advisor for Military Co-operation with Oman.

Lord Astor is President of the Anglo Belgian Society and is President of the Motorsport Industry Association.

From 1965-1970 Lord Astor served in The Life Guards, part of the Household Cavalry,  in Malaysia, Hong Kong and on ceremonial duties in London with the Mounted Regiment.  He was also deployed to Northern Ireland.  He remains involved with The Life Guards as a member of the Regimental Council.

Lord Astor’s grandfather was Field Marshal, Earl Haig, Commander in Chief of the British Army in WWI.  Lord Astor is Patron of the Douglas Haig Fellowship and is President of the Durand Group – researching and restoring WWI tunnels and trenches.

Lord Astor is a Deputy Lieutenant of Kent, where he has a farm, and is married with one son and four daughters.

Rupert Goodman - Board Director, NewWaves Solutions

Educated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge, Rupert Goodman is the Founder and Chairman of FIRST- a leading, multi-disciplinary International Affairs organisation. FIRST was given the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2010 and 2013 on the recommendation of the Prime Minister and with the approval of Her Majesty the Queen. He is also Chairman of World Petroleum and World Energy Insight – organisations providing information on the oil/gas and energy sectors. He received a Periodical Publisher’s Award in 1993. 

Rupert sits on a wide variety of Boards and Trusts and advises international organisations and corporations. He is Chairman of Elmbridge Partners, Chairman and a founder Trustee of the British-Kazakh Society, Founder of The Responsible Capitalism Initiative, a Vice President of Fauna and Flora International (Environmental Charity) and a member of the Development Board of Artes Mundi (contemporary Arts Prize). He was appointed a Trustee and the Deputy Chairman of The Prince’s Trust International in 2016. 

Previously he was appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London in 2012 and received a Metropolitan Police Commissioner’s Award in 2012. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. He has edited and co-edited a number of books and contributed articles to a range of magazines and journals. 

Henry Strutt

Henry Strutt has a background in investment banking, having been Chief Executive of Global Investment Banking for the Robert Fleming Group. He has extensive overseas experience having lived in Asia (Hong and Tokyo) for 20 years, where he became Chairman and Chief Executive of Jardine Fleming, the Asian investment bank and fund management group jointly owned by Jardine Matheson and Robert Fleming. 

He served for 10 years as a director of Smith & Williamson Holdings, a diversified fund management, accountancy and tax advisory group and was also a director of Harrods Bank Limited. He is currently Chairman of Edinburgh Worldwide Investment Trust plc, an investment company listed on the London Stock Exchange. He is also Chairman of the Governors of the Royal Hospital School, which is part of Greenwich Hospital, a Crown Charity. 
Henry is a qualified Chartered Account (A.C.A.) and was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of Suffolk in 2012.
