DEME was asked to carry out dredging works for the protection of Corsini harbour, where the Cruise Terminal is located, and to deepen the Candiano Channel for our client Autorità Portuale di Ravenna.
Eventually, the contract represented a total volume of works of 866,000 m³, which took place over two phases of the project in 2010 and 2011.
During the first phase, the following works were executed:
- Dredging of the basin (volume of 360,000 m3)
- Dredging of the turning circle for the new Cruise Terminal (volume of 190,000 m3)
- Extra dredging representing 70,000 m3
- Extra dredging of the southern area of the turning circle (25,000 m3)
- Dredging depth -9,00 m.
In the second phase Dredging International dredged the Candiano Channel, together with the southern and northern areas of the Cruise Terminal. This represented volumes of 316,000 m3. The dredging depths were between -9.60 m and -11.50 m. The dredged material was pumped ashore into a reclamation site established 6.5 km from the dredging area.
