What we do

Challenge

The Albatros Offshore Wind Farm consists of 16 (7 MW) wind turbines and an offshore substation. Our client had opted for the Siemens OTM® for the substation solution, thereby enabling the use of a similar foundation to the WTGs, allowing the design, fabrication and installation processes to be optimised.

Pacfic Osprey (DEME) on the Albatros Offshore wind farm project

Solution

DEME was the EPCI Contractor for the WTG and OTM® foundations, as well as for the transportation and installation of the OTM® topside.

The foundation was fabricated by the SIF and Smulders JV. We installed the foundation with the JUV ‘Pacific Osprey’ at the end of the WTG installation campaign. We deployed a 3000kJ hammer for driving the monopile and used both a noise mitigation sleeve, as well as a big bubble curtain to mitigate the impact of the pile driving activities.

The OTM® topside was delivered to a quayside in the Netherlands where we transferred it to a barge and transported it to a transfer port for collection by our JUV ‘Innovation’. Then the topside was transported (roro) from the quayside to the transport barge by SPMT. Transfer to the JUV ‘Innovation’ was handled by the vessel’s own 1,500 MT crane.

Following the installation of the topside on the foundation, we welded and coated the connection between the two parts.
